Open Channel Flow Measurement with Ultrasonic Transmitter

Application Problem: A municipal utility required a flow meter to monitor influent flow in an open channel.

Application History: The influent flows into the treatment plant through a narrow open channel flume that made level measurement difficult.

Solution: ABM’s non-contact mini ultrasonic level transmitter and open channel meter (OCM) were selected for the application. ABM’s ultrasonic transmitters have an extremely narrow radiation beam that allows the sensors to be installed in any shape of channel. The OCM offers many flume and weir shapes plus 30 points for any shape channel. The ABM ultrasonic transmitter communicates with the controller using Modbus RTU protocol, providing reliable flow measurement.
